I've cleaned up a bit the synaptics-related code in DrakX (installer + mousedrake). We now don't specify any synaptics driver options for classical synaptics touchpads, but we let the driver do it.

Though, we still have some specific options for ALPS touchpads. Maybe they should be set directly bythe synaptics driver instead.
